A series of workshops on Operations Research within Big Data subjects will be presented by a collaboration between the Portuguese Association of Operational Research (APDIO), IBM-Portugal, and the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre (IPP). The sessions will be held at the College of Technology and Management (ESTG/IPP), Portalegre, Portugal, in September-October 2014 .

 

The structure of the workshops:

On the first day (09-Sept-2014), teachers, researchers, students and professionals will meet to discuss topics relevant to OR in Big Data environment; this meeting will include 3 panels (Health, Logistics and ICT, Energy and Industry) with brief presentations followed by a discussion period.

 

In the following days (10-Sept. and 8/9-Oct-2014), there will be a "hands-on" training using IBM tools ("Hadoop", "Big Data") targeted at laboratory applications and case studies.

 

Although the registration / presence in the different days is done autonomously, a fully follow up of all the different sessions is strongly recommended for those participants interested in practical developments and Big Data applications .

Note: There is a minimum number of regularly registered participants required (15, fifteen) in order to hold the different sessions.
